Tough Decisions and Real Action needed on the Environment

5.50.13pm GMT Mon 12th Mar 2007

Commenting ahead of the publication of the Draft Climate Change Bill, Jenny Willott MP said:

"I welcome the introduction of the Draft Climate Change Bill as far as it goes.

"But this Labour Government has presided over a 3% rise in carbon dioxide emissions while green taxes have fallen as a percentage of GDP.

"The Conservatives may back the Climate Change Bill but have failed to tell the country how they will reduce carbon emissions. They are all targets and no teeth.

"The Liberal Democrats are the only party to have put forward substantial proposals on the environment. The green tax switch would cut taxation for low and middle income earners and increase taxation on those who pollute.

"These are the tough decisions which are needed."
