Jenny Willott - Standing up for Cardiff Central

GOVERNMENT HAS MORAL DUTY TO POLICE OVER PAY

12.01.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 15th Apr 2008

Commenting on the Police Federation's legal bid to force the Government to award them a full 2.5% pay rise, Jenny Willott MP said:

"Whatever the outcome of this case, the Government has a moral duty to abide by the police pay arbitration award.

"The whole point of the arbitration system was to bind both government and the police to its independent decision because the police are not allowed to strike or even take other jobs.

"What is the point of establishing an independent review to arbitrate over exactly this sort of issue, if ministers are going to turn round and ignore it?"
